Fall Meeting at Merritt College on Nov. 5

We’ll be at Merritt College in Oakland for our next meeting, Saturday November 5. Doors will open at 8 and we’ll have our official start around 9. The highlights of the day will include an invited talk by Paul Bergeron from Pasadena City College titled “Transforming Classrooms into Science Gateways through 3 Dimensional Learning.” Online registration is closed, walk-ups can pay at the door.

Our tentative schedule looks like this:

  • 8:00 Doors Open
  • 9:00 Official Open
  • 9:05 Share & Tell (bring a favorite science ed demo, lesson, etc. to share)
    • 10:05 Break
  • 10:15 Keynote: Paul Bergeron from Pasadena City College titled “Transforming Classrooms into Science Gateways through 3 Dimensional Learning.”
    • 11:30 Photo + Lunch
  • 1:00 Workshop/Discussion Space Block I
    • 2:00 Break
  • 2:10 Workshop/Discussion Space Block II (Note, long workshops span both blocks)
    • 3:10 Break 
  • 3:20 Panel – “AAPT is Coming” (Discuss summer meeting in Sacramento + other stuff)
  • 4:00 Close

There will be a pair of longer workshops that will span both afternoon blocks, one by the keynote speaker, and one on Modeling.  Hour-long workshops/discussion groups in the first block include those on NGSS, TYC issues, and Heavy Metal X-ray Fluorescence; the second block will have AP, Social Justice, and Use of Simulations.

People should go to Lot C for parking, we’re meeting in R-110 (Building R, Room 110). 

Masks are strongly recommended, but not required.
